Is Your Name in God’s Address Book?

Does anyone else actually use a paper address book?  After 40 years of marriage I bought a new one and am copying the names and addresses of friends and family that we want to keep in touch with.  Unfortunately after 40 years half of the people in the old book have passed away or we have lost contact with them. I actually have my mother’s old address books. She kept them all and the oldest one reads like a history book because it also contains the dates of anniversaries, birthdays and even my great grandmothers last address on earth.

An address contains detailed information of the place where someone lives or an organization is situated.  When we move we usually fill out a change of address form with the post office so our snail mail and bills can be forwarded to our new home.

God has given us the Bible as our guide for living on earth but it also contains wondeful news about our potential final address. I say potential because not everyone chooses to be included.  Some people may even joke about not wanting to live in heaven but it isn’t a laughing matter. It truly is a matter of eternal life.  Jesus told us that He was prepraing a place for us and that He was the only way to move there.

John 14:1–2,6  (ESV)
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?  …. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

The prophets told us about God’s “address” book.

Revelation 20:12,15…..And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. 15And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

It is quite simple to have your final address changed.  Jesus already paid the way.

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 10:9    because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Dr.Tony Evans said,  “When God writes your name in the book of life it is in ink and not in pencil.”  God promises us hope for today and security for tomorrow.

Nancy, I am on Team Paper with you when it comes to address books! I always appreciate your posts.

And if I can ask a personal question: I had to switch addresses this past week to send mine out (they now come from [email protected]). If you did NOt get yours, please check your Spam folder or add the new address to your Contact list. I want to stay connected. Thanks!
