Are You Weary?
Somedays I am so weary – not necessarily sleepy, although a nap wouldn’t hurt. I am just “sick and tired of feeling sick and tired”. Although I do have underlying health issues, I am sleeping okay and not to achy. I know that I really shouldn’t complain because all of our needs have been met. Life really is good but by the time March comes in New England, especially after the big storms we had, I are ready for Spring.
What is a weary person? 1: exhausted in strength, endurance, vigor, or freshness. 2: expressing or characteristic of weariness a weary sign. 3: having one’s patience, tolerance, or pleasure exhausted – used with of soon grew weary of waiting. ( www.yourdictionary.com) It is someone who is bushed, burnt out, drained, drowsy and dog tired; Frazzled, fatigued, pooped, sapped, tuckered out and wacked. I am sure many of you can identify with these feelings.

The 2 to 1 conference explains the difference between tired and weary. “A weary person deserves to rest. Weary implies the subject is tired because they were beaten down by something. Tired implies you didn’t get enough sleep. Weariness is a temporary feeling of low energy and tiredness.”
It is okay to feel weary! We live in a very busy society with many demands on our time and presence. Life is full of twists and turns both good, bad and in the middle. If we tell God how we are feeling He will send comfort and the strength we need. This doesn’t mean our circumstances will immediately change but we may feel a supernatural peace to help us push onward in the face of weariness.
Looking for signs of Spring gives me hope and joy. The little sprouts pushing through the soil are a fulfillmentof hope planted in the fall. The animals are out and about from a semi hibernation or from seeking shelter in the deeper woods. The wonders of nature help lift my spirits with a refreshing view. While an attitude of gratitude nurtures my soul.
Here are five promises for weariness:
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matt 11:28-29
The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. Isaiah 40:28
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:6-7
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Gal 6:9

Thank you for being open about being weary. Those scripture verses are such perfect reminders of how God is in control and that He truly, 100% cares for us.

True, true. 2020 is definitely a weary-year for me. I think it has a lot to do with expectations. Dashed expectations. Speaking engagements all canceled. Travel to see kids and grandkids, canceled. Get-togethers canceled. Sometimes it feels like life has been canceled. But, in the middle of the weariness, God is there. In the middle of the discouragement, He is present. For me the trick is to look for the unexpected to find His faithfulness. When nothing is the same, trust that He never changes. He gives us glimmers even in the shadows. Thanks, Nancy.

Thanks for reading this! Yes it is not that life is bad….it’s all the dashed expectations and plans. Weary of feeling stuck. Not that God isn’t still at work! We are grateful for good health and many other blessings!

Amen, again, Nancy! Praise God, His Word truly is a shield & fortress for our souls. It revives us just like God revived the dry bones in, was it Ezekiel?
I have been weary, off & on during this season.
It is a unique time &, as my daughter Anne quoted Queen Esther, saying, “we were born for such a time as this.” My God’s Spirit guide us & strengthen us to persevere & love as He loves in the midst of the challenges. ❤️ Ellen

Many of us can relate to what you’ve written here, Nancy. I was just working on a chapter this week about Elijah when he collapsed from exhaustion. On behalf of every weary pastor and prophet, thank you.
