Two Prayers For Mothers

Mother’s Day can bring a mix of strong emotions.  There are many types of mothers; expectant mothers and there are mothers on their knees for wandering children.  There are mothers with medically complex children and those who have lost a child.  Single moms, moms with blended families and there are those of us who no longer have our mothers this year. It is a day to honor motherhood in all forms including adoptive and foster moms and grandmothers raising their children’s children.  God created mothers and the role they play is an intregal part in society. It is a high and noble calling. All mothers should be praying moms because it’s also a hard job.

Exodus 20:12 (ESV)    Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.

Proverbs 31:27–28 (MSG)      She keeps an eye on everyone in her household, and keeps them all busy and productive. Her children respect and bless her; her husband joins in with words of praise:

A PRAYER FOR YOUNG MOMS – copied from Hallmark

Dear Lord, it’s such a hectic day,

With Little time to stop and pray,

For life’s been anything but calm

Since You called me to be a mom-

Running errands, matching socks

Building dreams with wooden blocks,

Cooking, cleaning, finding shoes, And other stuff that children lose.

Fitting lids on bottled bugs, Wiping tears and giving hugs,

A stack of last week’s mail to read-

So where’s the quiet time I need?

Yet, when I steal a moment, Lord,

Just at the sink or ironing board,

To ask the blessings of your grace

I see then, in my small one’s face,

That You have blessed me all the while –

And I stoop to kiss that precious smile.

A MOTHER IS PRAYING by RUTH BELL GRAHAM

Listen, Lord, a Mother’s praying

low and quiet; listen please.

Listen what her tears are saying,

see her heart upon its knees.

Lift the load from her bowed shoulder,

‘Till she sees and understands,

You, who hold the worlds together,

hold her problems in Your hands.

Genesis 16:13 (ESV)    So she  (Hagar)  called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, “You are a God of seeing,” for she said, “Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.”

Luke 1:34–37 (ESV)
And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”  And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For nothing will be impossible with God.”

Whatever your circumstances may be, God sees you, hears you and takes notice of the incredible  job you are doing.  You can trust that our Heavenly Father loves your children and watches over them.
