Autumn: Hope For New Beginnings
Autumn is my favorite time of year. The period of time between summer and winter when the period of daylight becomes shorter and tempatures are cooler is also called Fall in New England. The deciduous trees burst forth in a beautiful display of color before falling off the tree and then it is time to rest. The time for harvest has come with great hope and expectation. Some of us will plant bulbs now for pretty flowers in the spring. Our furry animal friends are in preparation for winter as they busily gather nuts and many feathered ones begin a long migration to warmer climates. (we saw the snow geese in Vermont once!)
A new school year has begun. They have big expectations for learning new things and seeing their friends. Maybe they have acquired a new set of clothes and a backpack full of tools. The first day of school pictures are proudly displayed for friends and family. It is a busy and exciting season.
Autumn has always seemed like the beginning of a new year for me as I fill in my calendar with activities and appointments after summer vacations are over. In New England, we all enjoy the longer and warmer days of summer but now outdoor time will be a little less. Change can be good and exciting but it is also scary for some. There are always unknowns but we don’t need to be afraid. God is in control in every season.
Genesis 1:14 (ESV)
And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years,Daniel 2:21
He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding;Numerous studies suggest that having something to look forward to boosts your mood and lowers your stress. “Imaging good things ahead of us makes us feel beteter in the current moment. “It can increase motivation, optimism and patience and decrease irritability.” Copied from “Wait for It” by Holly Burns in Readers Digest June 2023
What are you looking forward to in this new season? As you can see, I have a whole new website and I hope you enjoy it! I have been working with a web desinger and anticipating it’s launch which is today! I will continue to offer you a biblical perspective on the world we live in. Our environment and politics have changed but people and their problems have not. God has the answers for us in His word that are time tested and true.
My minstry verse is: Hebrews 6:19 (ESV)
We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain,
Faith in God’s steadfast love and the promises in His word have been my anchor through many difficult circumstances. My hope lies in the fact that I can go directly before The Father with all my praises, problems and requests. The only barrier, or curtain, that lies between us is our own sin. If we confess our sin He will forgive us and restore our broken relationship. This is every believers promise and hope.
Blessings to you my readers in your new beginnings.

Nancy, what a pleasure to see your post pop up in my box today. I miss autumn in New England! Two years ago I was at Berea most of September, and last year I was serving at Camp Monadnock. I’m hoping perhaps if God so leads to return next fall. But in the meantime you’ve reminded me that every season brings its own rewards and challenges. Blessings!
